My name is John.

I am an extremely hard-working family man, and I am doing everything I can to support my wife and young son. I can do this anywhere, as my family is willing to relocate to wherever opportunity is greatest for me. Although I have a great deal of experience in one area, I am also willing to utilize other skills I have developed (such as general management) to allow my family to continue our current lifestyle.

Hi John. My name is Kelly, otherwise known as KJae on Marly's blog. My brother started his own company a year or so ago after working hard for the man for years and years. I'm embarrassed to say that I really have no idea what he does, or what needs he has, but I know it has to do with welding. He has been complaining recently of not being able to find good, honest and hard-working employees. I also know that they claim to be able to pay a pretty price for such a worker. I just have no idea what that means.

So, if you know how to weld or imagine that there might be something with that sort of company that you'd be able to be a part of I will give you his information.

He's located somewhere in California.

Good luck to you! I'll post your site on my site.

Good luck, wish I could help!

Kelly, thank you so much for the lead. Aside from a little MIG action in my garage, I don't have much experience as a welder. But, please pass my information on to your brother anyway - he may know somebody (who knows somebody) in the industry. Thanks!

Jess, you can help! Just keep passing my information on. It may be 10, 15, or even 100 people down the chain, but eventually, it will fall into the hands of somebody who needs my skills and abilities. Thank you!

John, you're so welcome! I just sent my brother your information. I pray that it helps in some way.

Philippa, thank you! I really appreciate your taking the time to send these links my way. I'll start researching these companies immediately.

You are more than welcome John. I pray God that they are helpful to you in some small way.

You've probably already checked these companies, but I will throw them out anyway....Michael Baker Corp and Dewberry. Also, have you been checking all the various local government job vacancies? I've seen the type of job you're seeking listed before.

Steve, local government is always on my radar. And I've applied at Dewberry, but have not heard of Michael Baker Corp before. I will check them out, thank you!

I know an electrical contractor in Atlanta that is hiring if you are interested.

Gotta be Starbucks. I think your blog and idea are brilliant. Have you had job offers?

John said...

Rhen, thanks, but aside from shocking myself a few times, I don't have any electrical experience.

Audrey, I've had several interviews, but no good offers yet.

I live in South Louisiana. I got this link from Money Savings Methods.

I dont' have any leads for you, I'm sorry to say. However, I was wondering if you had considered being a landman. I know that North Louisiana has had a huge boom in oil leasing. I realize that your experience has been in leading crews in land development (if I read your resume correctly), but land work is good work if you can break into it.

There is a website that has job listings. I'll find it and post it here. It can't hurt to just start cold calling some of these people.

My biggest warning is that land work is contract work and, therefore, not steady.

Here is a link. It's not the one I was thinking of though. I'm going to keep looking and post something else if I can find it.

Your family is in my prayers. I'm so sorry y'all are going through this. From what I can tell, things are more expensive here in South Louisiana and Texas, but the job market is still fairly stable. I don't have a ton of friends that are being laid off. I'm saying that because you might want to consider South Texas and South Louisiana as areas to start looking into - just be aware of the heat, humidity and hurricanes!

John, I too live in South Louisiana and saw Carrie's post about you on Money Saving Methods. I am forwarding your resume and blog link to two people. One is in Cleveland and I'm not sure how relevant his company's work is to your experience, but I'm taking a shot. The other is here in New Orleans; not sure how appealing that is or isn't to you, but worth a shot huh?

Believe it or not, what an encouraging site - to others, anyways! I have prayed for you and will continue to pray for you and your family until you get that job. It will be right around the corner, I just know it. I hit on your site via MoneySavingMethods, to which I subscribe. There's lots of good energy in the subscribers there - and the related blogs - and its coming your way! My family is also in the job market - with the goal of me continuing to be a SAHM. I lived in Northern Va for about 3 years but left for a slower pace...anyways...you hang in there. It will come!
