The Search Is Over!

After almost a year of searching, I am finally EMPLOYED!

Thank you all so much for your help! I am still in awe at the number of complete strangers who have stepped up and offered a hand. Most of you will never know how much your kindness has affected me and my family.

And speaking of my family, you can keep up with us at my wife Marly's site "Who Am I?" (http://marlylynk.blogspot.com), as I will no longer be posting here.

Again... THANK YOU!

Thursday, July 10, 2008

My name is John.

I am an extremely hard-working family man, and I am doing everything I can to support my wife and young son. I can do this anywhere, as my family is willing to relocate to wherever opportunity is greatest for me. Although I have a great deal of experience in one area, I am also willing to utilize other skills I have developed (such as general management) to allow my family to continue our current lifestyle.

I need a job.

I have spent the past 22 years working my way up from a block mason, to an inspector, to an equipment operator, to a forman, to a superintendent, to a project manager. Most recently, I was employed as Land Development Project Manager.

Unfortunately, with the economy the way it is, development in my neck of the woods has been halted, and for the last several months, I have found myself unemployed. Even more unfortunately, there are a great number of poor souls just like myself throughout the United States. I need to stand out from the crowd, and I'm asking for your help.

You can help me.

Everybody knows somebody, and you never know who knows the magic person who needs my skills and abilities. So, send everyone you know a link to my blog here. Eventually, it will fall into the inbox of the right person.

Also, at the top of the page is a link to download my resume. If you know somebody who is hiring, send them a link, or give them a copy. Even if you know somebody is not hiring, but in the right business (or even close to the right business), send them this way.

I'll even pay you!

Yes. To the person who helps me find my next job, I will pay $1,000. I'm not kidding. It does not matter if I know you, or you are already paid as a recruiter, or you own the company for which I end up working. There is only a slight catch:

In order to avoid being scammed in this search, and because unemployment does not make a lump sum feasible, payment will be structured. I will pay you $100 at the completion of three months employment, and every month thereafter, up to one year, for a total of $1,000.

Update - 07/15/08

Thank you so much for your extremely positive response! Hundreds of people have visited this site because so many of you have passed my information along. I am overwhelmed by your kindness. And I also appreciate all of your well wishes. It is much easier to remain positive with the support of so many of you behind me. Thank you!

Because of your help, I am furiously researching leads, and I have made many contacts. I even have an interview next week - for a local government position I applied for months ago. (Although we are willing to move, the thought of doing so in this economy is a little frightening, so local would be nice.) I understand that I am one of many being interviewed, so keep your fingers crossed...

And please, keep those leads and ideas coming!

Update - 07/20/08

We have slowed down a little bit, but I'm thinking things will pick up soon.

In the interim, I have researched a little bit about how people are finding me. To the right, a little further up, you'll notice I have listed all of the blogs that have been sending traffic my way. I owe all of you a huge thank you. Especially considering the fact that I've never even met most of you!

I also want to thank everyone who has passed this link on through email. I haven't yet found a way to track that, but I know there have been a great many people - again, most of whom I have not met - who have decided to hit the forward button. For that I am extremely thankful as well.

Now, here is why I am thinking traffic should pick up again soon: Our local paper ran this (click here to view) on the front page of the Business section. So... Welcome Daily Times readers! Do you need a Land Development Project Manager?

Update - 07/25/08

Thank you all so much for the well-wishes!

The interview yesterday was great. I think I could be very successful there, which would make everybody happy. So, keep your fingers crossed for me, and we'll see how things play out.

I've also had a couple of players I thought were retired step back into the game. I'm not sure exactly what refueled their interest, but I'll take what I can get. It would certainly be nice to have some options.

Please keep the positive thoughts flowing!

Update - 07/30/08

Once I got the kinks worked out, the giveaway really started to take off!

I am truly moved by the number of people who have been willing to help. I have received several comments with links and ideas. A lot of people (check out the sidebar) have posted about my search and linked to here from their blogs. And the supportive comments have done wonders to increase our positive outlook. Thank you!

Although there have been no offers (or rejections) yet, I have had a few interviews. Hopefully, the end of this dreadful stage is near.

I participated in the Bloggy Giveaways Carnival!

Congratulations to Crayl, author of Beyond Black & White!

From 166 entries, your name was drawn as the winner of a $25 gift card for Target!

Thank you to all who participated by reading, commenting, and/or passing my information along. You've given a whole new meaning to "the kindness of strangers".

Update - 08/05/08

Things are really starting to pick up!

Yesterday, I had an impromptu interview. Today, I had a second interview with the company I met with two weeks ago. And tomorrow, I have a second interview with yesterday's company. One of these companies is very close to home, but the other would result in our moving a few hours away. Of course, they both have various other positives and negatives as well. I'm just hoping that ultimately I'll have a choice.

Please keep thinking positive thoughts, and I'll keep you posted when I know more!

Update - 08/10/08

I'm still playing the waiting game... Not very exciting.

On an interesting note, I started this blog exactly one month ago today.

Thank you to those who are still with me.

Update - 08/15/08

Still waiting. The out-of-town company is very interested, but we have to see what will be necessary for us to move. And the local company has still not made a decision.

Much to my surprise, yesterday I received a phone call from another local company I applied to almost six months ago. I interview with them on Monday.

Wish me luck!

Update - 08/20/08

Unfortunately, Monday's interview didn't turn out to be at all what I expected. We can cross that job off of the possibilities list.

The other two jobs are still in the running however. I should hear about the local job next week, and the distant job maybe sooner than that. I'll be sure to keep you posted!
